Lionel Messi is a household name globally, having brought finesse and glamor into the round leather game, carting home numerous awards to show for it.

But outside the football pitch, the world’s multi-award- winning playmaker’s compassionate heart has seen his foundation (Fundacion Messi) bring smile and laughter to the faces of many, giving hope through charitable ventures.

Through his Fundacion Messi, he donated € 200,000 for the construction of several drinking water pumps and the distribution of nutritional supplements:  “Our foundation continues its commitment to young people, with this donation of € 200,000 as support in a joint project with Unicef.

“And the goal is the construction of a drinking water pump and the distribution of nutritional supplements for children in Kenya” he wrote on his Twitter account, adding the Choose to Believe hashtag.

Messi has silently been involved in several projects to help the needy. He had always distributed through his foundation, meals to 15,000 children in Mozambique. He had also financed the construction of a children’s cancer centre in Barcelona with an estimated payment of € 2.5 million. Lionel Messi recently made a donation to his hometown of Rosario. He refurbished a sports complex in a deprived area.

Despite these many gestures of generosity highly commendable, the Argentine has recently been the target of attacks from some media. He is accused as well as his father Jorge of having laundered the money through his foundation. Charges that the interested party considers “totally unfounded”.

Fundacion Messi is part of the foundations of the richest footballers on the planet. Taking into account his income from Barça and his various sponsorship contracts, his personal fortune is estimated at € 347m.
