The Biden-Harris Team announced recently that Osariemen would be a member of a new White House staff of 100 persons. She will serve as Covid-19 Policy Adviser to Joe Biden.
The daughter of Edo State immigrants, Osariemen is no stranger to Biden and Harris. She had served on the Biden-Harris Transition Domestic team before her new appointment.
The 26-year-old graduate with honours from Harvard has degrees in Medicine and African-American Studies.
She has worked as Senior Health Adviser for the United States House of Representatives. She had hitherto served as Legislative Aide for Health Policy on the US Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labour and Pensions (HELP) for Ranking Member Patty Murray of Washington. She also worked for US Representative Jan Schakowsky of Illinois as legislative aide for health policy.
Her job then was to draft, negotiate and manage the congresswoman’s legislation, oversight and policies concerning comprehensive healthcare and public health agenda.
Recently, her focus has been mainly on the Covid-19 pandemic.
It may be recalled that Biden, who gets inaugurated as president of the United States on January 20, had recently named Nigerian-born Adewale Adeyemo as Deputy Treasury Secretary.
According to Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, the COVID-19 Response Team will work to quickly implement a comprehensive, whole-of-government COVID-19 response strategy to contain the pandemic, restore public trust, and protect all Americans.
Osariemen’s father and mother hail from Edo State. She was however born in 1994, and raised in the state of Massachusetts.
With the rainbow colour the Biden government is assuming, and the plethora of talented and educated Nigerians in the US, we have probably not seen the last of Nigerians likely to take office in Biden’s administration.
