The Cameroonian set the record at the age of 16 years and one day in an away win against Hertha Berlin SC when he was substituted for his fellow Borussia Dortmund teammate, Erling Haaland in the 85th minute. His appearance in the match hence broke the record that was previously held by Nurin Sahin at 16 years and 334 days.
Borussia Dortmund also confirmed the news on its Twitter page with the caption, “The youngest debutant in Bundesliga history, Youssoufa Muokoko” with a clapping emoticon.
In the same vein, UEFA, on their Twitter handle, also displayed a picture of Moukoko training with the club’s first team in preparation of their Champions League match against Club Brugge. It says on the post, “The 16 year old in line for a UCL debut. ”
However, Moukoko was an unused substitute in the Champions League game against Club Brugge on Tuesday. With his call up to the club’s first team, his Champions League debut is only some few matches away.
Although, born in Cameroon, Muokoko has played for the German youth team and had recorded a string of impressive performances in Dortmund’s youth team. His figures stand at an incredible 141 goals in 88 BVB youth games.
