Multiple Award-winning American singer, Beyonce has come out to explain the reason she had Nigerian and other African artistes feature in her Lion King album “The Gift.” The queen bee recently featured artistes from Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa and more on The Gift album which elicited wide mixed reactions globally.

Some of the Nigerian artistes who worked with Beyonce on her album include Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Tekno, Yemi Alade, Wizkid, and Mr. Eazi.

The music diva has explained the reason for her choice of different artistes with varying sounds.

According to the report, Beyonce explained that she was influenced by everything from R&B, Afrobeat, pop and other genres of music.

“This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop, and Afro Beat.” She said.

The mother of three added that she wanted to put everyone on their journey to link the storyline. She further explained that it was important for the music to be performed by the most talented and most interesting African artistes.

“Each song was written to reflect the film’s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their imagery while listening to a new contemporary interpretation. It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me.”

Despite Beyonce picking various artistes from different parts of Africa to work with, Kenyan singer, Victoria Kimani, is not impressed with the queen bee’s choice.
