Davido, Wizkid, Yemi Alade, Lupita Nyong’o Shine in Dallas at AFRIMMA 2018
Nigeria Nigerian popstars Wizkid, Davido and Yemi Alade all won awards at the just concluded African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) 2018, dedicated to showcasing African music which was held at the House of Blues in Dallas Texas.
The Nigerian music entertainers who made their country proud as they bagged numerous awards at the event, all gave energetic performances among the many African singers across the continent, proving the dominance of the Nigerian music Indusyry in the continent.
Topping the list of award winners are Davido and Yemi Alade who emerged as winners of the Best Male West Africa and Best Female West Africa, respectively.
Wizkid however, won two awards for his song, Soco. It emerged winner as Song of the year Award and also Video of the Year.
Flavour and his talented visually impaired Liberian singer, Semah, also got their own spotlight at the event. While Semah won the award for ‘Afrimma Shining Star Award’, Flavour snagged the award for ‘Best Live Act’.
Talented sensational singer, Burna Boy was not left out. The singer who is still trending for the magnificent sold out concert in London, won the award for ‘Best Dancehall/Reggea ‘ .
Davido’s DJ and 30 billion gang member, DJ Ecool, also got his fair share of recognition at the award as he emerged as ‘Best African DJ USA’.
Popular music producer, Masterkraft also won an award as well. He was given the award for ‘Music Producer of the Year.
Meanwhile Kenya’s popular and perhaps leading hip-hop artist Baba Yao Khaligraph Jones was also honored at the Awards which witnessed first-time performances from our very own gospel star Papa Dennis.
In the category of “Best Rap Act” which had ten entries including South Africa’s biggest hip-hop artists at the moment – Casper Nyovest and Nasty C- Khaligraph Jones emerged top. Taking to his Instagram page, Papa Jones expressed appreciation for the award with a simple post “…GLORY BE TO GOD. #AFRIMMA 2018 #BestRapAct..”
Papa Dennis won the Best Gospel act beating bigwigs like Willy Paul and Gloria Muliro who have dominated the gospel scene for more than five years. Other winners at the event included Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo – East African Artist of the year, Fally Ipupa for Artist of the Year (Overall).
This year, AFRIMMA added a new category – AFRIMMA Achievers Award – which included nominees from other fields of entertainment and sports. Among the big nominees recognised was Kenya’s famed actress Lupita Nyong’o and the host of the Daily Show, Trevor Noah.
