Fifa President Gianni Infantino set to grace AFCON opening ceremony today

The President of world football governing body FIFA, Gianni Infantino will be in attendance to witness the opening ceremony of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament today at the Cairo International Stadium.

The Chairman of the Egyptian Football Association Hani Abo-Rida confirmed that Gianni Infantino will join other dignitaries to grace the occasion.

The much-awaited continental showdown is 12 hours away from kickoff in Egypt as the expanded tournament will see 24 countries competing for continental glory for the first time in the history of the AFCON.

Quoting Abo Rida:

“FIFA president Infantino informed me that he will attend the Nations Cup opening ceremony and the opening game between Egypt and Zimbabwe”.

The opening ceremony will come first before the opening match of the tournament between host nation Egypt and Zimbabwe at the Cairo International Stadium which will kick off at 8:00 PM tonight.
