General Ozzy: Inspiring New Generation of Zambian Musicians
One of Zambia’s most celebrated talents, General Ozzy is considered a legend who has laid the foundation for current and future Zambian musicians.
Born David Banda, General Ozzy is also referred to as Ozzi di General. He is a dancehall and RnB artiste. His track Osalila-his first single under sling beats studio- became an instant hit appealing to every Zambian household and entertainment outlets because of its pulsating beats and lyrics. This led to the release of his first official album, General Ozzy. He released his second album in 2006 titled General Eyez. The music features hits such as ’Chino Chalo’, ‘Making Me High’ and ‘Wenye’ featuring Kanji. The collaboration earned him a household name in the country’s music scene. It features the ‘Nimusanga’ song which featured K’millian. The song is probably one of the best collaborations Zambia has seen thus far. It was followed by ‘The Trilogy’ album which featured a hit single called ‘Potential’. The song was voted song of the year for 2008 on The Radio Phoenix Local Rhythms Count Down sponsored by Zain.
General Ozzy is also a part time radio presenter, song writer and music producer with Brathahood music.
His musical acclaim can be attributed to his versatility, hard work, consistency and determination.
Born David Banda, General Ozzy’s life as a musician dates back to 1996 when he was in high school. It was in December 2004, that he released his maiden single ‘Osalila’.
In 2010, he launched his fourth album titled ‘Kobili’ meaning ‘Money’. It has tracks such as ‘Take My Heart’ and ‘I Need a Girl’. In 2014, he released his long awaited album titled ‘5-Star’. The ‘Komboni Dugude’ song taken from that album earned him a nomination in the Best Dancehall Album category at the 2015 Mosi Zambia Music Awards event. In July 2015, he released a dancehall banger entitled ‘Pamodzi’. The track featured Wezi and was produced by Lil G.
General Ozzy remains a strong musical influence in Zambia and environs, inspiring aspiring and upcoming musicians to pursue their dreams with zest and determination; his own success being a shining example.
