Leading Cable TV brand, StarTimes launches the first edition of the Pan-African Online Film Festival (PAOFF) in Africa to encourage African local content creators.
The festival will be running via StarTimes ON and is a quarterly online film awards competition open to all local professional film and music video producers.
In a statement released by the Operation Director of StarTimes ON, Ariel Wang said “the online festival is primarily created to encourage online content creation industry in Africa. This is an online age and local online video contents will be a significant pillar of StarTimes ON’s content strategy”.
“That’s why we created PAOFF awards and we sincerely wish the awards competition will encourage the improvement of local video creation and see the rise of African online video industry,” she said.
According to StarTimes, the festival will only be active on a mobile application, StarTimes ON, an online streaming service that provide live TV, Video-on-demand on news, series, and entertainment.
The new platform is a fan’s voting for all video contents that are qualified for the PAOFF awards competition, which will include favorite film ranking board, favorite MV board, favorite short film ranking board.
According to information from StarTimes, all videos will be shortlisted in the three boards based on their category and ranked according to votes from StarTimes ON users.
In addition, number one video of each board will win the quarterly ‘Best MV Award’, ‘Best Film Award’ and ‘Best Short Film Award’, with the content producer winning USD1,500 as a prize.
