Bensoul, Eric Omondi, Khaligraph headlines the 5th edition of Madaraka Festival
Celebrated Kenya stars Comedian Eric Omondi, Khaligraph Jones and Sol Generation Firstborn Bensoul are set to headline this year’s annual Madaraka Festival slated for August 3rd, 2019 at the Kisumu Beach Resort.
Madaraka Festival dubbed “a night to remember” by Northwest Music Scene is referred to as one of the most consistent African events in the Diaspora. Also, “a premier African-influenced festival” by YES Magazine, and a “globally oriented event” by Humanosphere Magazine.
Since Madaraka Festival debuted in 2014 it has attracted over 3,000 patrons and reached over 3 million people digitally. Proceeds from the festival go towards One Vibe Africa’s Education Music and Art Program (EMAP) which has supported more than 500 youth in Kisumu.
Others on the list of performance include; Nazizi, The CBK Music, Mazzi & Soul Purpose, Musa Jakadala, Karun, Nairobi Horns Project, and Nafsi Huru.
The 5th Madaraka Festival will be hosted by self-acclaimed “president of comedy in Africa” Eric Omondi, MC Jakamega and MC Mbom. On the one’s and two’s will be the Baddest Dj Suraj and Dj Kriss Darlin.
This edition regarded as international cultural extravaganza will be the culmination of a whole week of activities happening in Africa for the first time and will feature poetry, storytelling, a film festival, live music, exhibitions, and workshops.
According to Simon Okello, one of the organizers said that the festival seeks to support One Vibe Africa’s initiative on building communities via sustainability and entrepreneurship.
“Our vision is to expand, one community at a time, by creating Madaraka Festival in every community with the proceeds supporting that community as well as One Vibe’s work. We aim to leverage our network across Africa to reach many communities through music, the universal language” he added.
