In a bid to render music as an instrument of positive change, no other person could have been the pivot of such a daring project but the late afrobeat king Fela Anikulapo Kuti. And so, a unique gathering of musical youths from Nigeria, Africa and indeed the globe for the purposes of educating, elevating and lifting minds as a means of effecting this positive change that would stem evil tides in nations and foster development has been tagged “Fela in the new Body and its maiden edition debuts at the New African Shrine Saturday, 21st July 2018 with a red carpet at 7pm.
Fela Anikulakpo Kuti was Nigeria’s foremost and undoubtedly Africa’s most outspoken artiste. He was well known for the invention of the genre of music known as ‘afrobeat’. The uniqueness of this genre attracted ears to its sound and most importantly Fela attracted people with his zest in the fight against a corrupt Nigeria. His music reflected a deep passion for the New Africa that we all seek today. His music though centuries old has remained evergreen in the minds of progressives.
According to the organizers of the show, it is a movement to become a transformational proactive event that would cause the change which would lead to the nation and Africa we desire irrespective of its current situation.
Africa’s spirit has always been evident in the music of its artistes, from Miriam Makeba, Brenda Fassie and of course to the unforgettable Fela. The spirit must be revived.
