Former Nigerian President Shehu Shagari Dies at 93

Death has been announced of former Nigerian President Alhaji Shehu Shagari who passed on at the age of 93 at the National Hospital in Abuja, Nigeria.
Announcing his demise on Friday, his grandson, Comrade Bello Bala Shagari who is president of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), said the statesman was briefly ill and taken to the National hospital where he gave up the ghost.
Alhaji Shagari was Nigeria’s president in the 2nd republic from1979. He was overthrown in 1983 by the military junta led by General Muhammad Buhari in a coup d’etat shortly after the beginning of his 2nd term in office for large scale corruption.
Although he was later cleared by the junta of corruption charges, he was banned from active participation in politics for life.
