The team stepped on Russian soil with delay, since the flight they took in Austria landed an hour later than scheduled.

Nigeria prepared for three weeks in Austria and played three friendlies before their journey to Russia. They tied 1-1 against Congo; lost 1-2 against England and 0-1 against Czech Republic. “We reviewed the matches and learned many lessons, we will approach the World Cup matches in a different way,” said coach Gernot Rohr.
