Nigerian fast-rising star singer, Richie Selassie Okonkwo revealed that listening to MI’s songs inspired his venture into the music-making craft. The young talent has said that it’s time to take over the competitive Nigerian music industry.
Richie, 23, who hails from Aguata-Anambra State, graduated from the department of Geological engineering, Keane Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi. He said that the one person that made him come into music is MI. “Back then, I knew every one of his songs words for word. That was how I actually started the music”, said Richie.
While speaking on his role models in the industry, Richie shared his plans to do collaboration with Ycee in the near future. He also hopes to work with some other popular music stars. “During our secondary school days, Ycee and I loved miming artists’ songs. Ycee was a Lil Wayne freak and I was an MI guy back then”.
“Whenever we put in shows, Ycee would do Lil Wayne stuff and I would perform MI stuff, and girls would be screaming”.
“One of those students came up and said to me, guy, I have watched you do this, countlessly. I am your classmate and a fan. You should look into it”, he said.
He further said, “Shout out to Ycee. He’s currently a successful young man. And I like to do collaboration with him this year. I have contacted him about it and the Selassie Family’s working towards it”.
“It would be an honor to work with Olamide soonest. Olamide puts flavor on his songs. It will be a great honor to work with him and Wizkid. Fingers crossed, hopes high, I believe God works in mysterious ways”, he said.
