Nigerian Government finalizes plan to distribute FREE 1million Electric Meters
According to him, the deployment of the meters which had already begun in parts of Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Kaduna is the result of the Federal Government funding to Distribution Companies to ensure the completion of the first phase which is to end exorbitant billing and close the metering gap.
The President via his verified Twitter handle said, “Under the first phase of the Presidential Mass Metering initiative, we are making funding available for Discos to roll out 1,000,000 meters in the first phase, at no cost to consumers.”
In addition, the future phase is geared towards meeting 6.5million deficit of meters nationwide and also impact an estimated 30million consumers.”
He added , “All meters under this program would be sourced from local manufacturers and in-country stock to create jobs.”
The end goal according to the President is to end estimated billing and to ensure that Nigerians only pay for the electricity they consume.
