Founded by Sister Katherine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, a Catholic order established to serve African Americans and other racial minorities, Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) is a private historically black Roman Catholic university in New Orleans, Louisiana.

In 1925, it became a four-year college when it began the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

It is the only Catholic HBCU and the second Catholic university founded by a saint, after St Mary-of-the-Woods College.
