Sarkodie Wins Big at Vodafone Ghana Music Awards
Celebrated African rapper, Sarkodie, has been named the ‘Artiste of the Decade’ at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. The rapper won this very prestigious award in his home country.
The 20th edition of ‘Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’ was held at the Accra International Conference Center (AICC) on Saturday, May 18th, 2019.
The ‘Artiste of the Decade’, is an award conferred on artistes every ten years. It started in the year 2000. This makes it the second time that the award is being conferred. Sarkodie joins the veteran musician Kojo Antwi, who won the first edition of the ‘Artiste of the Decade’ award.

The award is what every artist dreams of. Sarkodie had to beat other competitors, who have undoubtedly worked equally over the past decade, to clinch the award. Other artists involved in the fierce battle include R2Bees, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Joe Mettle, Okyeame Kwame, No Tribe & Nacee, Samini, Efya, and Becca.
After weeks of intense deliberation by the judges, the Ghanaian rapper walked home with the ‘Artist of the Year Award’. Today, Sarkodie is the most decorated artiste at the Ghana Music Awards,
The rapper wasn’t in attendance to receive the award. However, his manager, widely known as Angel Town, was there to receive the award on his behalf. He gave props to all his contenders saying they are the BET rapper’s biggest motivation.
