Uzo Aduba, the New Black star, has been penned to portray the historic congresswoman and civil rights activist Shirley Chisholm in the upcoming FX limited series, Mrs. America.

Set in the 1970s, the show will be presented through the eyes of Schlafly (Cate Blanchett) and feminist icons Chisholm, Gloria Steinem (Rose Byrne), Betty Friedan (Tracey Ullman) and Bella Abzug (Margo Martindale).

In 1968, Chisholm became the first elected African-American female member of the U.S. Congress. She helped form the Congressional Black Caucus. Even more, she worked on the Education and Labor Committee. Four years later, she became the first Black female candidate from a national political party to run for president.

Mrs. America is slated to premiere on FX in 2020.
