Popular black American singer-songwriter Rhianna has reportedly pledged a donation of $1.2million Barbadian dollars (or $700,000) to purchase ventilators for those who have been tested positive of the virus in her home country of Barbados.

Her home country which recently reported 17 confirmed cases of coronavirus, is also taking measures to assist its residents, including the $20 million survival stimulus package that aims to provide $600 per month for each family.

More so, the “Ocean” star has donated at least $5 million to different organizations in the United States, Caribbean, and Africa via her Clara Lionel Foundation, to support with coronavirus relief materials.

Speaking after making the donation, the foundation said, “When we first started this year, we never could have imagined how (the coronavirus) would so dramatically change our lives.”

“It does not matter if you are black or white are or which country you come from, this pandemic will affect us all. And for the world’s most vulnerable, the worst may be yet to come.”

The donated funds are expected to go towards food banks in underserved communities, protective equipment for frontline health workers, and to help to haste up testing in areas like Malawi and Haiti.
