Inec Comments On The Harmful Areas

The Independent National Electoral Commission said it would not conduct elections in areas where the safety of staff and ad-hoc workers are not guaranteed.
The National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, who disclosed this in an interview stated that as the exercise would proceed as scheduled tomorrow, the commission would not risk the lives of its officials by posting them to areas where they are exposed to harm.
Okoye revealed that the commission is with all the critical stakeholders in terms of where it is possible to conduct elections and working continuously with the Interagency Consultative Committee on Election Security and places regarded as flashpoints are being mapped out.

He added that the commission is determined to ensure that every eligible Nigerian votes in this upcoming exercise but it is impossible for it to be conducted in some areas that have serious problems of insurgency and places of camps of IDPs.

The commissioner reaffirms that wherever it is secure to conduct Elections, it would be conducted reassuring that registration areas will be adjusted to enable people to vote especially places that have challenges of insecurity.
