Host nation of 2018 World Cup, Russia began their campaign thumping Saudi Arabia 5-0 in what could well be described as a one sided game, dominating from start to finish.

After the opening ceremony  ,spectators didn’t have to wait for long before the goals started coming with the opening goal coming from Yuri Gazinskiy heading home Aleksandr Golovin’s set-piece delivery after 12 minutes.

Russia’s confidence only got revved after Dzageov’s replacement Denis Cheryshev doubled their advantage minutes before the break, with a powerful shot into the roof of the Saudi net after wriggling past a defender.

Saudi Arabia showed improved spells after the break compelling the Russians to sit back and hold possession, giving goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev some respite.

With 20 minutes left to play, Artem Dzyuba sealed all three points heading the ball past Abdullah Al-Mayoof as Golovin picked up his second assist of the day.

With a wonderful volley in injury time, making his second in the game, Cheryshev put icing on the cake giving Russia a fourth goal in a commanding win

Russia take on Egypt on Tuesday evening while Saudi Arabia face Uruguay the next day.
