Fela Kuti headlines Koroga festival in Nairobi

Award-winning Nigerian artist and four-time Grammy nominee, Femi Kuti, will grace the 26th edition of the Koroga festival which will be held at Tatu City on July 7th, 2019. The Instrumentalist, activist, Saxophonist, musician was announced at the unveiling of the glamorous festival.

The Koroga Festival is a celebration of African music, food, art and fashion brought to you in the form of a concert and open boutique market. Aptly named after the Swahili word meaning “mix,” The Koroga Festival is a great reflection of Kenya’s brilliant and diverse local talent, whilst also attracting leading artists from all over the world through music, fashion, food and arts. The host and fans are sure going to enjoy the music maestro presence live on stage.

Femi Kuti is the eldest son of Nigeria legend and Afro-beat pioneer Fela Kuti and his mother was Olufela Olufemi Anikulapo Kuti. He was also the grandchild to political campaigner, women’s rights activist and traditional aristocrat Funmilayo Ransome Kuti.

Fela Kuti’s music career started at age 16, in 1978 when he began playing alongside his father’s band, Egypt 80. Eight years later he formed his band “Positive Force”. Thereon, he has released ten records. Also, he has collaborated with popular musicians like Wizkid, Common, American rapper Mos Def, D’Angelo, amongst others.

Fela has toured the world over and performed in many festivals and concerts as a lead act. He holds the Guinness world record for the longest single note held on a saxophone with a record of 51 minutes – 35 seconds.

With just a few weeks to go, fans should be looking forward to his live performance including hit songs like Jaiye Jaiye featuring WizKid, Beng,Beng,Beng, some of his hit songs from his recent album ‘One People One World’, amongst others.
