The award-winning dancer and choreographer, Kafayat Shafau-Ameh, widely known as Kaffy, in collaboration with Q21 solutions and Landmark Events Center, has announced the second edition of her international dance workshop and conference (TDWC2019). The conference and workshop are scheduled to hold between June 3rd to 5th, 2019, at the Landmark Event Center, Oniru, Lagos.
Kaffy revealed what she intends to achieve while speaking on the upcoming event.
“There is no panel of discussion set aside to talk about the dance industry in relation to the entertainment industry. But the entertainment industry is riding on the back of the dancing industry. If not for our dances, Nigerian songs won’t even reach America. Our movement is huge enough to create some attraction. Dance has propelled people”, she revealed.
Kaffy further added that dance can be used to heal, reform and empower. “We can use dance to heal, reform and empower. If dancing has these powerful forces of nature, why are we still under the food chain? Why are we still regarded as second class citizens in an industry which sits and rises on us to push it? That’s why we need to have a talk on this. We are trying to change the narrative. To give dancers a pattern, teach them how to behave and sustain wealth for the rest of their lives. This conference is organized to create a platform to have this conversation with the industry that we are in service to”.
She concluded “The idea of the process is missing generally in the minds of contemporary youths. I am using dance to change the narrative. I planned on using dance to let lots of people know that there is no miracle to success. It’s hard work or your hard game that works. This conference is set up to inform, educate, inspire, motivate for business and to correct a lot of negative orientation that our young people have, especially about the creative industry”.
