iStore, think ahead offer free coding classes on upcoming Mandela day
As part of the celebration of Mandela Day, iStore and Think Ahead has revealed that it would provide free coding classes for hundreds of pupils in South Africa on July 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th. Each class will last for 67 minutes.
Mandela Day will be celebrated on July 18th and People will spend their 67 minutes to serve their communities, feed homeless people and clean the streets.
According to iStore, the free classes will be offered to pupils between the ages of 6 – 13 years and older from 11 locations countrywide. In addition, it will be divided into three coding sessions: beginner, intermediate, and advanced learners.
Quoting the spokesperson for iStore:
“Coding is fast becoming the most in-demand skill across all industries. Every app, computer program, and even microwave relies on code in order to operate. Teaching youth how to code ensures that we are prepared for a digital world.”
There are different coding sessions for each day as learners between 6 – 8 years old will have two programs, Spin Draw and Hello, Byte.
On Spin Draw, learners will learn how to code a character to follow their fingers’ movement on the screen. Meanwhile, Hello, Byte is for intermediate learners as they will be taught on how to use Apple’s coding language and to swift five simple commands.
For learners between 9 – 13 years old and above, Think Ahead provides five programs which include:
Code Machine, Battleship, Sensor Arcade, Brick Breaker, and Running Maze.
